Barix announces new network intercom

The Barix Annuncicom 200 is a network-based intercom device – an ideal solution for monitoring entrances and providing intercom and alarm functionality in large residential, commercial, public, and military building complexes. including: airports, production facilities, shopping malls, and remote facilities. Managing systems from a remote location presents many challenges – security, reliability ease of operation and effective and fast notification of faults are just a few.

Each site also has quite different requirements. The concern might be reliability and management of power supply. It may be the ability to securely access either serial or graphical console ports on switches, routers and servers. It may be the monitoring of environmental conditions or physical access to the equipment. It may be all of these. PowerCorp has engineered solutions for every requirement. Some examples are:

  • Every Unwired node is managed by a Lantronix SLC16 Plus and these have also been adopted by PowerTel as their standard for remote management of network nodes. In these sites they need out of band serial console port access and environmental monitoring.
  • The Optus/Yahoo data centre has remote power management for every server in over 50 racks to ensure rapid recovery in the event of a hang.
  • Each small populated island in the Fiji Group has a satellite earth station which is solar powered. A Barix Barionet is used to remotely monitor and manage these vital subsystems.

Some sites require that a specific individual or a set of individuals is notified securely, promptly and verifiably in the event of a failure. PowerCorp have developed an auto dialer which provides secure voice notification to a specified set of individuals in the event of a fault. We have developed applications for the Barionet to allow it to act as an equipment cabinet monitor and access control manager.

Remote management is not about being notified of a fault by an SNMP manager it is about the ability to respond promptly and securely to an event. This means implementation of out of band connectivity that is not reliant upon the switch serving the system and that also has a fall back wide area connection should the router or WAN have failed.

These disparate applications are in fact simple examples of the solutions that can be provided. Our standard systems coupled with our great ability to innovate and to engineer purpose specific solutions is the very reason that you should see what we can offer in response to your requirement.
